Rio’s city hall puts down illegal buildings in favela | AP News

Authorities in Brazil are putting down illegally constructed residential buildings in one of Rio de Janeiro’s favelas, after police investigations showed drug trafficking group responsible for the constructions. Since 2021, Rio de Janeiro City Hall has demolished more than 4,000 such buildings, most in areas under the thumb of local gangs, inflicting losses of more than 1 billion reais (180 million USD) to these groups.
